Very early on, Sukamto Sia learned about the importance of understanding the various cultures of the world. As a businessman who is the founder of his company in Singapore, Sukarman Sukamto learned that understanding other cultures is not only good for your mind, but for your business as well.

It all began when Sukamto Sia was in college. He began learning about the global market and how businesses from all around the world worked together for mutual success. Even though Sukarman Sukamto studied a great deal and earned impressive grades, he did not truly realize the importance of the global market until he began his graduate school internships. It was while working for a company in Singapore that Sukamto Sia saw how many different companies, from all around the world, could work together for the collective good.

He would use whatever resources he had available in order to understand the new cultures that he would be working with. Sukarman Sukamto quickly learned that these issues had the potential to be compounded by a lack of cultural understanding. Ensure Your Employees Understand Ethics. Just because someone is qualified to work with your company, it does not necessarily mean they understand ethical behavior. Sukarman Sukamto advises that you make sure to communicate with your staff, in the clearest way possible, how you expect them to behave as your employees.

Walk the Ethical Walk. Sukamto Sia believes it is important to inform your employees how you expect them to act, but it is possibly even more important to show them with your actions what it is to be ethical. Show them what it means to be ethical, and display what you want to see from your employees.

Sukamto Sia: Graduating Business School

Sukamto Sia knew early on that he wanted to be a success in the business world. This was partially because he wanted to walk in his father’s footsteps, but he also believed that business was in his blood. Since he was a small child, he would always try to run his own “business.” He would get a newspaper route, or sell refreshments in his neighborhood. He would even mow lawns! 

At such a young age, Sukarman Sukamto was not as interested in making money as he was in learning about business. His father would tell him how he should approach things, what he was doing right, and what he still needed to work on. As Sukamto Sia entered high school, he quit delivering newspapers and began to focus on getting the best grades possible. These grades eventually got him into the university of his choice, where he began working on getting his business degree.

Sukarman Sukamto worked had to make sure that he did well in college, knowing that his education there was only the beginning. He studied hard, and did not let anything distract him. Sukamto Sia even met his future bride while at college, but continued to work hard to accomplish his goals. Sukarman Sukamto would take extensive notes while in class, and then take his notes home so that he could memorize all of the details. 

Sukamto Sia enjoyed the learning process a great deal, and was impressed by how much he was accomplishing. Sukarman Sukamto’s professors began to take notice of his efforts, and were always impressed by his performance. Eventually, Sukarman Sukamto used his success at the university to get into graduate school. There, he continued to work hard in his studies and took on a few internships as well. He worked even harder while in graduate school, making sure that he would be prepared for working in the business world, just like his father.

Early on, Sukamto Sia leaned how important it is to do business not only locally, but globally as well. After graduating from college and graduate school, Sukarman Sukamto quickly learned that the most successful businesses tend to do business on a global scale, working with companies across the sea. When he learned how important this was Sukamto Sia began requesting to travel as much as possible. 

Sukarman Sukamto made it his goal to travel because he wanted to learn about as many different parts of the world as possible. He believed that in doing so, he would be preparing himself for the future of his own business. Sukamto Sia was interested early on in founding his own company, and so when he realized how quickly he could expand his own company by working on a global scale, he began studying which countries were the most beneficial to do business with.

He would research those countries with great interest, but Sukamto Sia would not stop there. He began studying not only why an individual country was successful, but also which countries they worked with. Sukarman Sukamto began to understand the web of business that the cooperative countries were creating. He would make sure to learn about their business practices, their culture, and their biggest industries. Sukamto Sia believed that by learning about these things, he would become a much more effective and successful businessman.

He took this knowledge and expertise with him when he founded his own company in Singapore. Though he understood the importance of the global market, Sukarman Sukamto never forgot that it is also important to work within your own country.
